Use ring connectors on each end and solder them on. The best thing for this is a short (<12") piece of copper braid (like the shielding on good quality coax cable). So, if you do use the roof rack, you may want to think about running a wire connecting the rack to the body of the truck. If it is not "bonded" to the truck then the rack itself will be the only ground-plane, and that is not sufficient at CB frequencies. The roof rack always has issues with being an effective ground-plane. I would use a minimum of 4' Firestick, but lean towards a 5' or 6'. This will help with the the quality of the grounding on the mount. Put some "star" washers between the mount and the winch tray so that it will bite into the metal on both sides. It might make more sense to tap some holes and bolt onto, rather than through. If you do this you would have to drill holes for the mounting bolts, and that looks like fairly robust steel. You could use a right-angle mount similar to the one I posted earlier, except with a 3/8"x24 mount that the Firestick uses. I received your PM, but thought we could share our experiences with this process. Looking at the picture below, there doens't seem to be an obvious place: If you also want to use it on the trail, I am at a bit of a loss, because without a spare tire mount, and all the integrated body panels, it doesn't leave very may places to permanently and firmly mount an antenna. My suggestion to you would, if you are just going to use the CB on a highway get a good quality magnet mount antenna and put it on the roof.

If you want a quick and dirty primer on CB radios check out a little tutorial I wrote at: This can result in damage to the CB.įour foot Firesticks are popular because they are rugged, and when mounted on the tire carrier will protrude above the roof of the truck for a more balanced forward/rearward performance. It would probably bias the reception towards the rear, and transmitting could be crippled by a very poor antenna "match" (AKA high SWR). Mounting a 4' Firestick on the bumper may work, but not very well. What is important is that the antenna has a solid mounting point, and that the whip extend's beyond the roof of the truck. For a variety of reasons this doesn't work for most. The ideal antenna is a 102" whip mounted in the centre of your roof. CB antenna mounting is always a compromise.
